Scene in Context - Week Three

Jump scene
In film editing a ‘jump scene’ or a ‘jump cut’ is when a clip is cut surprisingly short and jumps suddenly to something else — throwing the viewer off kilter.
- Begin by chatting about the Seeds to Sow question.
- Then as a group look at the illustrated scene for the week. What do you notice in the images, what catches your eye? What interests or intrigues you? What do you imagine is going on in this scene? The idea is that these images are storyboards for the scenes you picture in your head so there’s no right or wrong answers!
- Then read our Bible reading for the week keeping in mind the scene you have just been discussing.
- Then return to the image and go through the accompanying questions.
SEEDS TO SOW: Could churches lead the way in restoring and renewing neglected and derelict land?
This week’s scene: A community group submitting an application to transform derelict land. Look at the illustration. Discuss as a group what you think is going on in the scene. (The purple panel above in the centre.)
Read Psalm 80
Q: How does the scene affect what’s in your mind as you read the psalm? What do you think the mood of this scene in the image could be? How do you think the people in it are feeling?
Q: How does reading the psalm change how you see the scene? How does the mood and emotional resonance of the psalm affect how you think about the scene?
Q: Where is there derelict or neglected land in your local community you would love to see restored or made new? What is your prayer for transformation?
