Scene in Context - Week Four

Bursting on to the scene
Some scenes in our lives are indelible, they stay with us forever… and forever change how we see the world…
- Begin by chatting about the Seeds to Sow question.
- Then as a group look at the illustrated scene for this week. What do you notice in the images, what catches your eye? What interests or intrigues you? What do you imagine is going on in this scene? The idea is that these images are storyboards for the scenes you picture in your head so there’s no right or wrong answers!
- Then read our Bible reading for the week keeping in mind the scene you have just been discussing.
- Then return to the image and go through the accompanying questions.
SEEDS TO SOW: If you were to pick three ‘scenes’ from the Bible that mean a lot to you and stay with you, what would they be?
This week’s scene: Jesus standing on a crowded bus, arms stretched reading out to hold two of the straps to keep him upright. Look at the image. Discuss as a group what you think is going on in the scene. (The green panel above second in from the right)
Read 1 John 4: 7-12
Q: How does the scene affect what’s in your mind as you read the text? Can you picture yourself on that bus too?
Q: How does reading the text change how you see the scene? The reading is cosmic and makes an interesting juxtaposition with something as mundane as commuters on a bus…
Q: What would your next journey on public transport be like if you imagined each person you encountered, every passenger and driver, was Christ. What would our journeys be like if we committed to pray quietly in our hearts for every other passenger?
