There may be trouble ahead!

Daniel 12: 1-3

1 The angel wearing linen clothes said, “At that time the great angel Michael, who guards your people, will appear. Then there will be a time of troubles, the worst since nations first came into existence. When that time comes, all the people of your nation whose names are written in God's book will be saved. 2 Many of those who have already died will live again: some will enjoy eternal life, and some will suffer eternal disgrace. 3 The wise leaders will shine with all the brightness of the sky. And those who have taught many people to do what is right will shine like the stars forever.”

A time of troubles, the worst you’ve ever seen? Having recently had our time of Remembrance, I can imagine that people who witnessed the carnage of two World Wars might have thought that was the worst troubles they had ever seen. And then we take time to remember other atrocities through the years, like the Killing Fields of Cambodia or the Rwandan Genocide to name but two, and we think there are often times in our world history when the troubles seem to be worse than ever.

When will the human race ever get it right and learn to love their neighbours? We live in hope, we always live in hope. And even though we wonder where God is in all of this muddle of life, in our hearts we know he is right there in the mix and one day we will see clearly, one day we will know, one day God will bring it all together again in harmony. What joy shall fill our hearts!

Prayer:

Lord God, Creator, Sustainer, we bring our broken world to you in the silence of our hearts…hold us fast as we hold fast to you in faith; help us to shine like stars lighting up the sky as we share your love in word and deed, expecting a brighter tomorrow. Amen.
