God’s Manifesto

Liz Crumlish January 09, 2013 0 0

Luke 4:18-19

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

because he has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives

and recovery of sight to the blind,

to let the oppressed go free,

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

Lord, how could we expect your manifesto to be anything other than a quest for justice for all:

for the poor,

the oppressed,

the imprisoned,

the blind - those whom we step over every day in our race to reach the top of the pile,

those for whom you set out your stall.

We reject your Spirit because it demands of us more than we are prepared to give.

But still we pray for your Spirit to come upon us.

God show us how following your way, though never easy, is the way that leads to fulfilment,

the way that enables us to know peace when we seek peace for others.

May we know your favour as those who embrace your spirit and practice justice for all.

May your Spirit be upon us and the fruits of your Spirit be seen in us today and every day.
