Walk in Your Way

Isaiah 1:16-17

Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;

remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil,

learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan,

plead for the widow.

God how often you define society

by the way orphans and widows are treated.

May we look hard at the way we treat

the orphans and the widows in our midst today

- not so that we can become smug

but so that we can begin to measure up

by seeking justice for all who are vulnerable

and who are exploited because of their weakness.

In so doing, O God, help us to recognise the strength

of those considered weak

as they give direction to our compassion

and cause us to change how we live

so that our lives reflect your goodness

and your love that knows no bounds.

Then may we give thanks for all by whom

you teach us to live and walk in your way.
