2 Timothy 4: 16-18

16 At my first defence, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. 17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

In the TV drama ‘Broken’, before Father Michael listens to someone in need, he lights a candle as a reminder that Christ is present in that moment, the unseen Counsellor.

The Apostle Paul had many powerful experiences of the Risen Lord, especially when it seemed that all his inner resources were spent. Abandoned by friends, facing the final challenge of death, still he feels the Lord standing at his side to give him strength.

God our Father.

We know what it’s like to feel that our world is collapsing.

Circumstances beyond our control, friends disappoint, faith fragile.

In these moments help us to realise the presence of our Risen Lord, the light the darkness has never extinguished.

Amen.
