Daily Worship Writer - Jock Stein on Shrugging

We thank Albert Bogle for his Daily Worship week and we welcome preacher, piper and poet Jock Stein who continues our Easter theme After the Cross beginning Sunday 12 April.

This week we explore our second possible response to the cross: the shrug. It’s a lot to take in. The cross can feel very far away and long ago. Like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus we can shrug it off. ‘What’s it to me? Can I buy it? Can I take it seriously?’ This is a reasonable response to the questions the cross asks of us. If you have never shrugged, scratched your head, and been frustrated by the cross — is it actually the cross you are looking at? Or just a convenient logo?

This week Jock writes about shrugging, doubts and water skiing.

“Teach me how to shorten the distance between mind and heart, to think without denying feelings, to feel without abandoning thought, to be emotionally intelligent, to have a heart full of wisdom."

Read all of Jock's prayers in Daily Worship and check out our Connect Bible Study that goes along with the theme.
