John 2: 1-5 (NRSVA)

1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ 4 And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.’ 5 His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’

“I’ve been to many places around the planet.

Places you could never imagine, name them, I’ve been. High up in the sky or deep down in the depths of the ocean. From East to West, there’s hardly a country I haven’t seen.

My friends often refer to me as one of their favourite Globe Trekkers.

I’ve realised they’re not particularly interested in my photos but always keen to hear more stories of fascinating cultures with exotic food and drink. I wouldn’t want to boast, but I was once part of a fabulous Brazilian Fruit cocktail!

It had always been my deepest desire to see and understand more of the world. But it never truly satisfied and lived up to the expectation. It always left me feeling like an empty box – all dried up and alone.

That is, until one day many years ago, I experienced a different type of transformation. It wasn’t the standard cycle of evaporation and transpiration ending up in precipitation.

But then something mystical, something truly incredible happened one evening at a big Celebration. I’ll never forget the day. We were casually swimming and minding our own business when I heard a soft voice giving clear instruction:

‘Do whatever he tells you to.’

The next thing I know, we’re thrown into massive jars and then...

A miracle.

My entire ‘O’ shook, and I couldn’t stand on my own 2 ‘H’. My complexion changed and I gained acids, carbs, glycerol, phenolics and alcohol.

What was happening to me?

I’ve never felt this free before, I’ve come alive!

It’s the type of thing Disney movies are made of. For the first time in my life, I knew exactly why I was created: to be part of something bigger. To add flavour and zest and to show others that they too can change if they’re willing to be touched by Jesus.

Who knew becoming wine could be so transformative…?”

PRAYER:

Father, your love is sweeter than wine.

Allow me to be transformed by the divine,

And to know that you are mine.
