How? Why? Love?

December 17, 2013 0 0

John 15: 9-10

“I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done—kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his love.

Father, why do you love me?
Why do you love this world of mess and sin and brokenness and pain and suffering?
I don’t get it.
You are you and we are us.
And never the twain shall meet?
You are a mystery to me at times.
A clear mystery with a visibly opaque mind.
Your word tells me you are a Father and a Shepherd and a Husband who is so deeply
In love with creation that there is nothing you won’t do to save it.
Your world is beautiful and throws up a changing image of your imagination.
Even the coldest day has your warmth oozing from it.
And yet when people are let loose to rule your world bad stuff happens.
Power and money and selfishness dominates - denial and sacrifice and grace.
Who could blame you for turning your back on us, on me.
No one.
Absolutely no one because we have all turned from your path at one time or another.
I know what it is to say to “No” to you.
The sugar coated sin that is the veneer on unhappiness.
Sadly, I know the pang of spiritual pain when my choices have said, “I am not with him.”
But even in my dark moments there is an irresistible hope that dispels my self loathing.
It is the power of complete love.
It is the light of heat from the Redeemer’s heart.
It is YOU.
Sweet as honey is the taste of your love.
A feast for a starving child.
Christmas, Ministry, Easter.
Three words that say, “I, love, you.”
I don’t know why you love me but I’m not going to argue.  Amen
