Psalm 18: 2

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

God of wild places,
where mighty rushing winds speak of your Spirit’s presence and power,
and movement and mystery;
where heaving sea and rushing wave,
cry out for Christ’s urging ‘Peace, be still’,
where gull and gannet,
otter and seal,
remind us of your life and light
in all created things;
thank you for this place of wind and wildness,
of storm and sea;
this place of peace and presence,
of renewal and refreshment.

Thank you for this place of Aidan,
who travelled far at your bidding,
taught your way with patience,
and treated all with grace and love.

Thank you for this place of Cuthbert,
who sought you in solitude,
served you in humility,
and sacrificed his own desires
in obedience to your call.

Inspire us, enlighten us and empower us,
that we too may be caught by the unpredictable breeze of the Spirit,
may find peace in the swirling storm,
may be willing pilgrims, show steady patience and engage in faithful prayer,
and may be ready to seek you, serve you and sacrifice for you,
though Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
