I stand and wait

1 Kings 19: 11-13

And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.
And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Father God, when turmoil is within and around me,
you lead me to the place to stand.
There you quiet my soul,
There you remind me of who I truly am,
There you remind me of the road travelled and where I have come from.
There you remind me that you are God.
There I am disarmed.
Lord, I am no longer afraid because your love enfolds me completely.
I am disarmed of the need to justify myself, to claim anything of worth.
I surrender the hurts, the wounds I carry too.
I can just stand in this place and know that I am your child.
I stand in this safe place
and listen for the gentle whisper the Holy Spirit to whisper what I need to hear and to know now, to refresh me, to nourish me, to raise me up, to make me whole again.
Here in this place I stand and wait.
In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen
