Ephesians 2: 8-9 (NRSVA)

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast.

“Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish.” (From Ephesians 2: 7-10 in The Message.)

Grace…

A gift,

Undeserving,

The character of God!

What are we without it?

A bag of skin and bones, striving…

For what?

To be the best? The strongest? The fastest? The first past the post?

It’s grace that gives meaning to life, and without it,

In the words of John Newton…

We are lost.

I learned to play the bagpipes as a teenager and pipe music is splattered liberally with tiny wee flourishes and ornaments called grace-notes. Without them pipe music wouldn’t have the character it does, these wee grace notes help distinguish the individual notes and they allow the melody to skip and jig, reel and lament. Without the grace notes to set each note apart, the sound coming out of the chanter would just be one continuous bland sound as each note blended into another…

It's grace…

God’s grace that brings accent, colour and meaning to our lives,

It’s grace, God’s grace that brings our own unique gifting into focus,

And it’s grace, God’s grace that makes us whole… Not what we do, no matter how great we are.

And that grace is poured out for us…

Not because of who we are or what we do, but because of who God is!

That’s grace…

God’s grace…

Isn’t it amazing!

PRAYER:

Spring of Grace,

Thank you!

The wonder of it all…

That you see me…

Me?

And love me…

Me!

And in that love,

Pour out grace unending,

And keep on doing it…

When I muck it up

When I get it wrong…

And that spring…

It never runs dry, it never trickles…

Always, it gushes and tumbles, roaring as it fills the air, a water fall in spate…

Soaking, sparkling, refreshing,

Giving life!

Amazing God,

Deep spring of Grace,

Thank you!
