Ephesians 2: 8–9

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast.

Raskolnikov, a student and murderer, who deserves the punishment of the law upon him for his crime. A punishment of exile which he receives. But… undeserved and unexpectedly he finds himself loved by Sofya, who for love of Raskolnikov accompanies him into his Siberian exile in Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment.

Loving God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

Lover of those who love him not,

Lover of those who don’t deserve your love,

we are humbled before you.

Your grace isn’t fair…that’s why it’s grace,

Your love lifts us into your loving presence when we don’t deserve it.

May your love transform our lives,

may we live as those overwhelmingly loved.

We praise you and thank you for your wonderful love for us.

Be glorified in us as we live your life of love,

through Jesus Christ who loved us first. Amen.
