Five Words for February

We begin a new theme for the month of February called ‘The Parable of Social Distancing’. As Ash Wednesday falls in the middle of the month this will be the first of a two part Lent sequence with the second part starting in March ‘Man of Sorrows, People of Hope’.

As we anticipate Lent and then head into this season of reflection together we are going to use five words help us begin to learn something from the experience we now call ‘social distancing.’

Holiness

Communion

Community

Freedom

Love

We have chosen these words because they are words that we use to describe God. If we are made in the image of God could these words begin to help us understand why it is that we find ourselves constrained and conflicted with the concept of being socially distant from one another?

But could this time of necessary restriction be a time of other things opening up? Could this be the work of the Holy Spirit preparing hearts for a spiritual awakening? It is with this longing and expectation that we begin our prayers and reflections during February.
