Advent Labyrinth
Maggie Lane encourages you to try our Advent Labyrinth!
From the beginning of November our televisions are being inundated with Christmas ads. Whether it's John Lewis or Marks and Spencers or Aldi or whoever. We've all got that pressure started already to make this the best Christmas ever. When did Christmas begin at the end of October, beginning of November. I've even seen Christmas trees up in the streets nearby me. What is it all about? I want just to encourage you to stop and think for a moment, to give yourself a little space, a bit of breathing space, and think about what Christmas really is about. And you have an opportunity to do that if you try our Advent Labyrinth. You might say, what's a labyrinth? What's the labyrinth about?
Well, it's really a prayer walk. It's a guided prayer walk that has 12 different stations telling the story of Christmas. The true story of Christmas about God sending his one and only son, Emmanuel, to be with us. So with a labyrinth prayer walk, you just take one station at a time. You have time to stop and reflect and breathe and feel the peace and receive the story.
You can engage with it. It's proactive as you can be involved in the story as well as you go through the different stages of this prayer walk. It really is such a blessing and such a comfort to be able to take time out and do an Advent labyrinth. And Sanctuary First have prepared a resource for you to do it.
So can I encourage you: Don't get sucked in to all the advertising. Don't get sucked in to all the stress, the busyness, and the strain. However much fun Christmas is, I'm not the Grinch, but can I encourage you to take some time out, to reflect, to hear what God is saying and to go on this journey, this labyrinth prayer walk.
It will bless you and maybe those around you.
Maggie Lane
