We thank Dan Harper for his Daily Worship week and we welcome our own James Cathcart who launches our new autumn theme The Bible: Our Library, Our Sanctuary beginning Sunday 6 September.
James is really excited about this new project, inspired by the 500 years of William Tyndale's groundbreaking New Testament in the English language. In his week of Daily Worship he argues that the Bible is not a book. It's not so much a thing we read, as a place we go. Over his reflections he explores how the Bible is a meeting place - somewhere to meet our ancestors and our contemporaries, our friends and our enemies, our God and ourselves. In the Bible we meet all the people who have brought us to this point, and the Holy Spirit who comes alongside us.
This week he imagines the Bible as a library, a pharmacy, and a forest...
"The Bible is not full of people who know all the answers. In fact the opposite would be more accurate. The Bible is a continuous story told over thousands of years, and multiple languages, cultures and genres, of a whole bunch of people with burning questions: who am I? Who is God? How do I live a good life? Why do bad things happen to good people? How do we make a lasting peace? How did we get to here? What’s next? Where should I go? Where are you God?"
