Hebrews 11: 1-3 (NRSVA)

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.

I (Albert Bogle) have asked my friend and colleague Neil MacLennan to write today’s reflection and prayer…

“So, you’re the Creator then?

Boy, do I have some questions for you!

You know, for a while we were convinced you didn’t do it: the whole universe thing. We reckoned that we had pretty much figured out an answer for everything — a grand unified theory — although there were a few black holes, [cough] in the mathematics!”

— “...and now you realise that I AM the grand unified theory? The one thing that binds it all together? Who explains everything?”

“er, yes… looks like it. Still, can’t quite believe it. We were so sure. The equations, give or take, all added up. But look, here you are: the truth personified.”

— “Quite.

My Son had a friend called Thomas and, as it happens, I have a little Time on my hands. Let me tell you about him…”

Prayer:

Creator God,
Maker of all things, breath of all life, sustainer of all being.
Help me to open my eyes to the wonder of it all.
My mind has little capacity to take it all in:
from Big Bangs, to cataclysmic Crunches and literally Everything in between.
Let it be enough that you are my beginning, my purpose, and — in death — my new life until the end of time.
And afterwards.
Amen
