Micah 6 : 8

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Friends in the United States talk of their concerns over the shootings that have been sweeping their country.  Christian people are on both sides of the gun law argument.  The National Basketball Association however, has decided to enter the fray and has produced a series of adverts involving many of its stars, calling for an end to gun violence. An article in the New York Times says this: “The N.B.A’s involvement suggests that a bloody year of gun deaths…. May be spurring even some generally risk—averse, mainstream institutions, to action.”  (Dec 23 2015)

Lord Jesus,
You stood beside those others ignored.
You reach out to touch those others avoided.
You spoke out for the voiceless
And called out for justice for the poor and the abused.
In your eyes,
All are in your ‘team’ –
With a first place spot reserved for the most vulnerable.
In your eyes
Women and men are in the match of life –
Not to play against each other
But with one another
And you.

When we lose sight of that…
Then remind us, we pray –
And help us to live caring for each other
That your goal might be reached
And your one, worldwide family might live your love.
