Old weariness, new wings…

Listen to this daily worship
Isaiah 40: 31 (NIVUK)
31
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Today’s verse is a contrast to yesterday’s. That verse celebrated how God is there to give us strength when we’ve run out of puff. This verse goes one step further — it’s a powerful promise and a beautiful reminder of God's sustaining strength.
The imagery of soaring on wings like eagles is especially striking. Eagles don’t just flap tirelessly — they catch the wind and glide effortlessly. This suggests that when we place our hope in God, we aren’t just given energy to keep grinding; we are lifted, carried, and given a new perspective from above. There’s a lightness, a freedom, that comes from trusting in something greater than ourselves.
I love the imagery of the verse from soaring, to running, to walking. Not only does God sustain us and help us soar — he’s there in the mundane. In the walking too!
Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that hope in God is never wasted. It brings renewal — not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally too.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the promise that those who hope in You will find renewed strength. When we feel overwhelmed, help us to remember that we don’t have to carry it all on our own. You are our sustainer, and strength.
We pray that you will lift our eyes above our situations and help us to see things from Your perspective — soaring like birds on the wind.
When we are tired, help us to run and not grow weary. When we feel weak, help us to walk and not faint. Help us move forward — one step, one breath, one prayer at a time.
We place our trust in You, knowing that You are faithful.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
