The Place of Rest

October 08, 2014 0 0

Matthew 11:25-30

At that time Jesus said, "Father, Lord of heaven and earth! I thank you because you have shown to the unlearned what you have hidden from the wise and learned. Yes, Father, this was how you were pleased to have it happen. "My Father has given me all things. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. "Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light."

‘Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.’

Loving God, we pause in this moment and in your presence to bring to you the thoughts and emotions of this day:
    -    the worries
    -    the fears
    -    the disappointments
    -    the work
    -    the challenges
    -    the conversations
    -    the joys
    -    the sorrows
    -    the expectations
    -    the confusion

We confess that there are times when we feel overwhelmed by the ‘stuff’ around us, when we don’t know which way to turn or how to deal with all that comes our way.

We remember the words of Jesus who said ‘Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest’. We thank you that when we feel under pressure and we don’t know what comes next, Jesus gives us a place to go, a place to find rest, to be at ease and to find strength for the next part of the journey.  May we accept his invitation to come to him and find rest, knowing that he welcomes us, opens the door and tells us that in his presence is the place where we belong.  In his name we ask it.  AMEN
