The Great Run

December 22, 2013 0 0

Hebrews 12

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Father, give me grace to see my journey to its end.
It can be such an easy race to run when my eyes are focussed on Jesus.
It’s equally as difficult when other things grab my attention.

Give me a glimpse of the winning line
Where Saints await to welcome me home
Line the paths of my race with encouragers
Let me encourage them too
With stories of miracles, visions and shared burden carrying

The truth is I get very weary and often need a second wind.
A second blast of your Spirit to fill my spiritual lungs
And drive away the fatigue of faith.
Carried by angels and fellow Christians who know the
Story of Elijah and know the story of Elijah in them.

Inspire all your people today to run
Empower your people to keep running your race
Let your voice whisper truth into our souls
Let your love light our path
Willingly we lay aside the extra weights of guilt and sin
That so easily trip us up. Again. Again and again.

With the lightness of a loved soul
I will run for Christ in the race of faith.
Not for me or others.
Just for Him.
The author and perfecter of faith. Amen
