Psalm 34: 8

8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Every time I share in the sacrament of communion, every time I see bread broken and shared, I imagine the turmoil that was raging in Jesus as he shared Passover with his disciples. Looking around he knew that, by the end of the night, those friends gathered around him would have betrayed him, denied him and scattered. Yet, by his actions, he set up a memorial feast for us to keep, a feast by which we could be restored and forgiven, a feast in which we could know the healing love of God made large in broken bread.

God we taste your living bread and know your goodness

We share your cup of love and know your healing

As we enjoy the nourishment that you provide, may we be compelled to share your life with others.

As we witness those today who are sacrificed on the altar of political power and oppression, may we recognise their selfless giving and rise up to stand alongside them, working to change all that prevents your creatures knowing life in all its fullness.

Christ you humbly gave your all.

May we hold nothing back, knowing that you nourish and restore, and that you continue to give your all, every step of the way.
