Surrender

Matthew 16:24-26

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

A disciple’s hymn - Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken

©2001 Bill Moore Music. Words: Henry Lyte. Music: Bill Moore.

1. Jesus, I my cross have taken,
All to leave and follow Thee.
Destitute, despised, forsaken,
Thou from hence my all shall be.
Perish every fond ambition,
All I’ve sought or hoped or known.
Yet how rich is my condition!
God and heaven are still my own.

Prayer:

Lord how worthless I am without You.
I seek to surrender all to you,
and yet, in honesty, I harbour and hold tightly to many things.
The grace I seek is to daily offer up all that I am to you
that little by little I would surrender all.
So by Your Holy Spirit come reveal what I need to bind up and surrender to you this coming advent.
The grace I seek is to know how to take up my cross and follow you Lord Jesus. Amen
