Scene: A Meal Deal Prayer

Listen to this daily worship
Hebrews 13: 15-16 (NIVUK)
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
You are in a hurry from A to B. You didn’t pack lunch and you’re staring at the chiller cabinet. You need something to tide you over as it’s a long train ride and the onboard trolley will be even more expensive.
You grab three things and take them to the till. A main that’s a solid go-to, bankable. A drink that’s a different flavour but a familiar brand. And then your snack, the wildcard, a complete unknown.
You find a seat and fold down the little table in front of you and spread out your meal.
Something stirs in you and you decide to offer up a prayer before starting into this odd, contingent, last minute, jumbled lunch.
A Meal Deal Prayer:
This prayer begins with a drink.
With refreshment.
Something hydrating.
We ask you to replenish us,
restore us.
This prayer continues with the main.
The sustenance.
The something filling.
We ask you God to sustain us
to fuel us
for whatever we meet today.
This prayer ends with a snack
with the question you want us to carry with us
the flavour that will linger
the salt, the sweetness
that takes us to our next meal.
Amen.
