Fulfilling The Scripture

January 15, 2015 0 0

Luke 4: 20–21

Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.  He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

We thank you for the example of Jesus,
we praise you for all that we can learn from him.

We thank you that when he opened the scriptures
he did not lose himself in study,
but that he also put it down and spoke.

We thank you that he did not only put the scriptures down,
but set about fulfilling them.

When we read of your love in Christ,
may we not stop with reading,
but also speak of what we read.

When we read of Christ’s mission
may we not stop with reading
but also work to fulfil what we read.

So may we live is such a way that the eyes of everyone might be fastened on the church,
as they wait to hear what we might say and do next.

Amen.
