Those Closest To Us

January 16, 2015 0 0

Luke 4: 22,23

All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.

Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”

Though often overwhelmed by the scale of the world’s problems,
we pray now for those closest to us.

Though often cast down by the forces beyond our control,
today we pray for those whose lives we touch and affect.

Though often left feeling insignificant in the face of systems of administration
today we pray for those whose lives touch and affect us.

We remember that those who knew Jesus well
were amazed by the gracious words which he spoke among them.

May we similarly speak words of grace,
even when our feelings are hurt
even when our emotions are stirred up.

May we similarly find ways to share your grace,
even with those who will see through any pretence,
even with those know us all too well.

So may we be able to do in our homes
what Christ has done in other places.

Amen
