Ephesians 2: 14

14 For Christ himself has brought us peace by making Jews and Gentiles one people. With his own body he broke down the wall that separated them and kept them enemies.

One of the biggest divisions we see in this world is in the land we call Holy as Jews and Palestinians live divided and apart. We all long to see love and justice reign in the Holy Land and for all people to love God and to love their neighbour. It seems so easy to say that in words and in a sense it sounds so simple, but division runs deep. But then we think of our own situations, the people we don’t like, the folk we find difficult, those we find it hard to love. This happens even within families where there is breakdown in relationships. If it is hard for us to mend, then how hard it must be to see the Holy Land mend?

And yet there is one who journeys with us who can break down the barriers, who can mend the broken hearts, who can unite, who can bring us together in love. If only hearts were open to that love.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you broke down the barriers that separated us, the barrier between us and God, the barriers that we put up against each other. In you we are one people, all made in the image of God, loved by you with a perfect love. Help us to break down the barriers that exist in our lives and in our world; help us to build paths of peace that lead us to each other and that lead us home to you. Amen.
