Mark 6: 31

31 There were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his disciples didn't even have time to eat. So he said to them, “Let us go off by ourselves to some place where we will be alone and you can rest a while.”

That’s life these days, isn’t it? We all seem to be busier than ever, even though we have more gadgets to ease the daily chores: washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, computers, mobile telephones, etc. And when holiday time comes around, we seem to be frantically getting everything ready so that we can relax finally when the holiday begins!

Work, home life, interests, and more can take up our time. God is often the first to get squeezed out of a busy life, isn’t he? And it is even harder for God to be allowed back in to our busy schedules. Even Jesus and the disciples had their busy days. Jesus recognised this and sought some peace for himself and his followers, but as you read this whole passage from Mark’s Gospel, we realise that even that intention was thwarted because the people found out where Jesus was going and followed, he was in such great demand. But even Jesus took time out to be alone, to pray, to be refreshed for the day ahead. How can we carve out more time on our busy journey through life, in our daily schedule, for God?

Prayer

Lord God, help us to find moments to be still, to know your presence with us as we make our daily journeys. Help us to keep our ears and eyes open to catch a glimpse of you at work in our lives and in the world around us. We take a few moments now to share what is on our heart…and now we take a moment of silence…may we know your blessing. Amen.
