One Body-Many Parts

1Corinthians 12:12-16

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.

Father what a privilege it is to be part of your Church, the body of Christ.

Thank You, that you think us worthy of the work You have called us to do.

Our role might be: to teach, to take charge of finances, to provide refreshments or maintain the church and grounds.

Whatever our role …all pulling together as one.

Yet there are times when we let you down and Your body doesn’t function as it should:

When we don’t pull our weight in the Church,
When we don’t use the gifts that you have given each of us,
When we think more highly of ourselves than we should, better than others,
When we squabble among ourselves, go our own way and don’t act as one body.

Lord fire up in us the desire to do better, to work together,
To respect one another, no matter our role within the Church.

Fill us with Your love Lord, so the Church can function as You intended it to do.

It is only then, that we will be able to reach out to the hurting,
with Your wonderful Gospel of mercy and peace.

Amen.
