None More Special

Matthew 6:9-13

Pray then in this way:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us to the time of trial,
but rescue us from the evil one.

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.”

Names…
I use a dozen, a hundred times a day;
my family, my friends, my colleagues;
names in the news,
names to remember,
names to call,
names on the tip of my tongue.
And all quite ordinary.

And yours God,
perhaps shortest of all,
but none more special.
Hallowed be your name.

Today Lord, I remember those who introduced me to you.
It doesn’t matter if some aren’t here now;
you can tell them the lasting effect they have had on my life.

I remember those who regularly preach the Gospel in public,
and those who say a word for you in private.
And I remember those who try to keep the faith
in places where your name is cursed,
or in the company of somebody who suffers
from an overdose of bad religion.

Let my prayers encourage those who speak in your name;
and let your Holy Spirit inform and guard their conversation.
