Rev 3:1-6

To the angel of the church in Sardis write:

“These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.

Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

All knowing and creative God, You make all things new,
you breathe new life into the tired and weary ones,
new life,
the wonder of it; new places to go, new things to see, new ways to be.

Eternal newness!

We loved it…

New purpose in our lives; new friendship with you. New energy, everything new, everything different,

That ’something’ that Christ gives, changes how we see ourselves, changes how we see our world, changes how we see You. We celebrate, rejoice, we tell out your greatness…..

For a while.

But we are dust of the earth, and we tire easily, our energy levels need a boost but the effort is too great, we have danced to the beat of your heart, now we are tired. The dance is a reflex and we have been lullabyed by your heartbeat. Resting in your love has become our default position, we are not stirred, we are people who have forgotten our new purpose. We who were once ‘not a people’ and now are your people; living as we did before.

And, there are steps still to be danced, praises still to be sung, stories still to be told.

And, There are hungry still to be fed, resources to be shared.

And, you are worthy of so much more than we are giving.

We have slumbered too long. Shake us Lord, wake us Lord, Holy spirit move us from our ease and comfort, to see ourselves anew, so that we will experience again your power, the power that makes all things new. The power that opens eyes, Lord make us live, to your glory. AMEN
