A New Day

January 08, 2014 0 0

Romans 13: 10-14

Love does no wrong to a neighbour; therefore love is the fulfilment of the law.

Do this, knowing the time; that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.

The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.

Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

Lord of all new things, new mornings, new days, new ways, new blessings, Lord of everlasting faithfulness.

Each new day dawns and we wake. From our waking moment we begin to make choices.

We make choices about what we will wear, we choose carefully, we choose according to where we are going, dressing appropriately for the day’s work or leisure. Oh and accessories, the must haves, the phone, the diary, the ipod. We must be prepared for every eventuality, check the bag, check the pockets and we’re ready to go.

Some days are filled with great expectation, a special lunch, a special appointment the day has come to pick up the new car, and so we have opened our sleep filled eyes, excited!

The day has come to sign the missive on the new house, and so we have opened our sleep filled eyes, excited!

The day has come to…….

Whatever we fill in this space Lord , it is sure to excite us, it is what we have been waiting for, we have counted down, and now the day has come for this new thing, we will realise our dream….

And now we remember another day that lies somewhere in the future, a day when all things will be made new. A day when the work which you have begun in us will be complete.

This coming day requires that we make choices, now, not about what we will wear, but about who we will wear. There was a day when we realised you destined us for greater things, You began a work in us, preparing us to bring in your kingdom, preparing us to spend eternity with you. And that day when we will enter eternity is nearer now than then, it is closer, that great day, when we will know as we are known. Prepare us for that day, help us as we resolve to turn our eyes from worthless things and look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Prepare us for that day, waken our souls to the wonder of it all that we may be clothed with your Son, glorifying you in all that we do and say by the power of your spirit working in us. AMEN
