Matthew 1: 21 (NRSVA)

21 She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’

‘“…you, Joseph, will name him Jesus—‘God saves’—because he will save his people from their sins.”’ (from Matthew 1: 20-23 in The Message).

Jesus is actually the anglicised version of the Hebrew name Yeshua or Joshua which means ‘God is salvation’.

Jesus, the Living word!

God in skin and bone.

Everything that the Old Testament said about the character of God wrapped up in a human being…

Compassionate, merciful, healing, restoring, perfect.

Healer, restorer of life, bringer of sight to the blind, enabler of the deaf to hear, and the lame to dance.

Love on legs!

Showing us how to live and saving us with his love.

Pouring himself out for others without thought, selflessly.

The Great “I am”

God with us.

Why not spend some time thinking about who Jesus is for you…

What image speaks most strongly of who Jesus is for you?

The Good Shepherd?

Teacher?

Friend?

Saviour?

Or maybe another?

What Bible verses speak most to you about the character of Jesus or who Jesus is or what he has done for you?

Turn this into a time of praise and thanksgiving…

Use your own words,

Let it become a hymn of praise.

PRAYER:

And perhaps today’s prayer as we reflect on all of that might simply be:

Thank you, Jesus!
