John 1: 14-18 (NRSVA)

14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified to him and cried out, ‘This was he of whom I said, “He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.”’) 16 From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.

“The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighbourhood.” (From John 1: 14 in The Message.)

One of the central doctrines of the Christian faith.

The Incarnation…

The Creator, taking on the form of its Creation.

The Eternal, bound temporarily by birth and death.

The Life Giver, drawing breath, emitting an ear piercing first cry, being dependent on humanity for survival.

The wonder of it!

The humility…

The love!

And even if I was the only creature ever in need of it, still God would have done it!

All so that I might know that love… forever!

The Incarnation fills me with wonder,

And makes my heart sing.

That God loves me so much that God takes on skin and bone,

Lived and loved,

And died…

So that I might know God’s love,

And so that I,

In His resurrection might also be raised, made new and have a place,

Secure in God’s family…

Forever!

Loved and adored.

PRAYER:

Skin and Bone,

Just like me.

Because you love me,

Want me, pursue me,

To make yourself,

Creator of All,

Known to me…

To show me the love you have for me,

To give me,

Life in its fullness,

To make me,

Flesh of your flesh

And bone of your bone.

God..

Thank you!

Amen
