Jeremiah 29: 10-14 (NRSVA)

10 For thus says the Lord: Only when Babylon’s seventy years are completed will I visit you, and I will fulfil to you my promise and bring you back to this place. 11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. 12 Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. 13 When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, 14 I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

Over the course of my ministry, many have recounted the times where I have suggested an idea or an initiative and reassured those listening that when it comes to resources, staffing etc, that ‘It’ll be fine!’ trusting in a God that leads us where we are meant to be as well as a God that provides, more often than not it is fine and I get the joy of saying ‘What did I tell you?!’

Today, this passage from Jeremiah reminds us that God is forever stirring us to press on and never give up, just as God never gives up on us. Even in Babylon in a time of exile, God’s beloved people were never abandoned nor forgotten about…

Verse 11 is often used in social media graphics for sharing faith, artwork, quotes in gifts of Bibles or notebooks to friends and loved ones. May these words also be etched on our hearts as we continue to trust that God has got us and will never let us go.

PRAYER:

God,

You have a plan.

You have always had a plan.

You will always have a plan.

May we trust you.

May we listen.

May we hear.

May we follow.

So be it.

Amen.
