Jeremiah 1: 4-10

4 Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,

5 ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.’

6 Then I said, ‘Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.’ 7 But the Lord said to me,

‘Do not say, “I am only a boy”;
for you shall go to all to whom I send you,
and you shall speak whatever I command you.
8 Do not be afraid of them,
for I am with you to deliver you,
says the Lord.’

9 Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the Lord said to me,

‘Now I have put my words in your mouth.
10 See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to pull down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.’

Real friendship is about real love, the kind that keeps on loving regardless, the kind of Love God has for you, for me. This love is reflected in our reading for today and I offer 3 words to ponder:

Intimacy, verse 5: Imagine being known before we were born! Before all of creation was sung into life. Ponder the depth of Love needed to hold the intricacies of each personality, the foibles of every individual, the struggles, the sorrows, the joys and, in addition, to invite deep intimacy via consecration – that is true friendship, true Love.

Intention, verse 7: Imagine that this Source of all love intends our lives to count for something, intends us to be filled with God’s abundance. The abundance which invites us to do the impossible with and for God.

Invincible, verse 8: Not only is intimacy and intention the gift of true friendship, but in our friendship with God we are rendered invincible! We cannot fail in our mission to love and serve the One Who calls us His friends…

Prayer

Eternal God, by Your grace, grant us the lucidity of the Angels to see Your immeasurable love for us, Your beloved children, Your friends. Amen.
