In search of something or someone to TRUST

Isaiah 55: 8-11

“I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.”
        God’s Decree.
“For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.
Just as rain and snow descend from the skies
and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth,
Doing their work of making things grow and blossom,
producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry,
So will the words that come out of my mouth
    not come back empty-handed.
They’ll do the work I sent them to do,
they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.

Who do you trust? Many promises are made in politics and in other places, Not all are fulfilled. We make promises ourselves and then ‘doh! somehow I forgot!’. Such instances can make us less certain of truth and such words of promise. it can even make us cynical. So how can we trust this word of Isaiah?  Here he asserts that God’s word of promise is grounded in God’s resolve, because of His steadfast love. That is for sure!

Pray:
May God bless us with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships
So that we may live from deep within our hearts.
May God bless us with anger
At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of God's creations
So that we may work for justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless us with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger, and war,
So that we may reach out our hands to comfort them and
To turn their pain into joy.
And may God bless us with just enough foolishness
To believe that we can make a difference in the world,
So that we can do what others claim cannot be done:
To bring justice and kindness to all our children and all our neighbours who are poor.
Amen.   [A Franciscan Benediction]
