Luke 12: 24 (NRSVA)

24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!

When it comes to cryptic crosswords, the only ones I really have a hope of working out without help are the anagrams. So I was delighted with the notes for this Sanctuary First theme which said that an anagram of ‘hoardings’ is ‘do sharing’.

Perhaps sometimes we overcomplicate things. Yes, there are times for major upheavals. But sometimes all we have to do to transform things or find a solution is a little rearranging.

It’s possible, for example, that this pandemic might have unfolded differently if vaccine rich nations had been able to agree to rearrange their priorities so that vaccines were distributed evenly across the world.

Of course I know it isn’t that simple. But small shifts can make a big difference if enough of us have the will to make them. Maybe it isn’t too late for us to do enough rearranging of priorities to save our planet from life changing environmental destruction.

As disciples of Christ we can and should lead the way in ‘doing sharing’.

PRAYER:

Generous God,

It isn’t easy to shuffle our priorities so that our lives spell out your good news.

We like our boxes where they are; ordered in such a way that the solution suits us.

Help us to gain a wider perspective; to acknowledge how our lives intersect with others.

We are designed to be interdependent. Fitted together in a pattern which only you truly understand but which nevertheless we can catch glimpses of when we follow your way of love.

There is no greater clue than Christ himself, who trusted in you to provide all that he needed.

Re-arrange us, Father, in his image.

Amen
