Gratitude is the DNA of the believer
Listen to this daily worship
1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 (NRSVA)
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
“I come with joy, a child of God, forgiven, loved and free” (from the hymn ‘I Come with Joy’ by Brian Wren).
Brian Wren’s hymn sums it up so well.
Surely our default should be joy!
I watched the Prom concert which featured Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with its choral setting of Schiller’s Ode to Joy. It was absolutely thrilling – a big orchestra, two huge choirs, sublime music and such joyful, uplifting, encouraging, hopeful words.
Gratitude and joy seem to me to be inextricably entwined
PRAYER:
Loving God,
thank you for joy.
Thank you for family and friends,
work and hobbies,
music and art,
sport and leisure,
all that lifts our spirits
and brings us joy.
Thank you for our faith
our hope
our love –
love of you our God
and love of our neighbour.
Thank you for joy.
