Exodus 3: 1-6

Moses and the burning bush

3 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, ‘I will go over and see this strange sight – why the bush does not burn up.’

4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, ‘Moses! Moses!’

And Moses said, ‘Here I am.’

5 ‘Do not come any closer,’ God said. ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.’ 6 Then he said, ‘I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’ At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

It happens when you least expect it. You come across a basecamp that pulls you in.  Within seconds you know you’re on holy ground. I mean ordinary ground that somehow is vibrating with holiness. You will be listening to a piece of music and something stirs within you. You may be talking with a friend and something starts to burn within you. You may be hiding away from God and out of the blue God draws alongside you in a supermarket or a factory floor.  It can be most disconcerting.  I’m talking about God’s call on your life. He will find you and confront you. Like Moses and the story of a burning bush, or Jonah and the story of a great fish. You cannot escape from God.

Lord,

As I read this

My heart is stirring

My pulse is racing

I’m totally surprised

So much has been going on in my life

But this is totally the wrong time

I’ve always wanted you to find me

Like a child playing at hide and seek

I wait patiently in the dark

Looking for you

To call my name

To discover me

To give me no choice

But you never come

Now you are hear

I can’t believe it

It’s all wrong

it can’t happen this way

I’m looking for a burning bush

Or a big fish

I’m looking for holy ground

Lord,

It’s a new year

It’s a new day

It’s a new me

I’m making my decision

I’m not turning back

I’m totally available

Use me as you will

I’m taking my shoes off

I’m making your call

My basecamp
