Matthew 13: 52

52 And he [Jesus] said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

'Writing in a diary is a really strange experience for someone like me. Not only because I’ve never written anything before, but also because it seems to me that later on neither I nor anyone else will be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year old school girl. Oh well, it doesn’t matter. I feel like writing.' - Anne Frank

Jesus, teller of stories,

were you convinced when the disciples said yes?

when they claimed to understand all of these parables

heard in close succession?

It's hard to keep up.

The mustard seed that someone sowed

The yeast that a woman took and mixed

The treasure that a man found

The pearl that the merchant searched for

The net being thrown into the sea

Is the kingdom the object, action or the intention?

The sowing, mixing, finding, searching, throwing

all done with hope.

And is the kingdom like a thirteen year old girl?

Given a diary for her birthday and

penning her dreams and longings,

despite the shadow of suffering

and where many pearls of wisdom are to be gained.

And what new treasures shall we find

as we take up our pen and write

with intention of things that are new

inspired by the wisdom of old scribes.
