GATHERING GOD

Martin Fair April 07, 2016 0 0

ACTS 1:6-7

6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Reflect on Psalm 133

Gathering God, we thank you that you are in the business of bringing people together. Where there are divisions, you build bridges. Where there are walls, you make ways.

And so out of the truth that Jesus was raised from death, you brought your Church into being. And from that moment men and women, young and old, have gathered in your name - the family of faith.

Today, Father, we are the Church.
By the power of your Spirit, make us a people who are ready at all time to support one another AND to reach out into a world of need.
By the power of your Spirit, make us a people who are ready at all times to comfort one another AND to reach out into a world of hurt.
By the power of your Spirit, make us a people who are ready at all times to love one another AND to reach out into a world of brokenness.
By the power of your Spirit, make us a people who are ready at all times to challenge one another AND to reach out into a world into which your Kingdom is coming.

Today, Lord, I am not alone. My brothers and sisters are around me. My brothers and sisters have gone before me and even now are seated gathered around your throne. My brothers and sisters will come after me.

Today, I rejoice to be part of your body, the Church. Alleluia!

Amen.
