HIDDEN FROM THEIR SIGHT

Martin Fair April 08, 2016 0 0

ACTS 1:9-11

9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

God, you have revealed yourself to us and yet you remain hidden from us. There is much that we can know about you but much more that we will never know, at least not in this life.

Even as the disciples stood with you, Lord Jesus, you were taken from them and were hidden from their sight. Oh Lord, we want to see more of you. We'd love the clouds to roll back that we would see you in every detail. That's part of our humanity - that reluctance to accept our limitations, including the limitations on our knowledge of you.

Loving God, grant us the humility to be content with what you have chosen to show us of yourself.

Loving God, grant us the humility to be content with the fact that, sometimes, you will be hidden from us.

Lord God, grant us the humility to be content with the truth that sometimes you will be right with us and at other times, it will be as if you have been taken from us.

But in everything remind us that you have never, and will never, leave us alone. Your Spirit is with us, now and always.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
