Friendship

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Those that know these things say we make up our minds about other people within seconds of meeting them.  I can remember, aged 10, meeting a new boy in Sunday School whom I thought was boring and nerdy.  I was into sports: he was into books.  He was from the posh houses: I was from the rougher end of town.  Thankfully we didn’t follow our instincts and go with our initial assessment of each other because more than 40 years later we’re still best friends.

And for 35 of those years we’ve been married.

Heavenly Father,

It’s easy to give up on people,

To move along to someone new when things get taxing or trying.

Every relationship though,

Needs worked at

Because that’s where the seams of gold are found.

Working through dislike,

Disagreements,

Disharmony

Leads to a depth of friendship beyond value.

Father,

That’s how you have been with us.

You have stuck by us when we’ve turned from you,

When we have gone our own way,

And when we have upset and hurt you.

For your friendship, we give you our sincere and heartfelt thanks.

Teach us how to be friends

With all….
