Matthew 28: 18-30

18 Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

Go into all the world.
Go to all peoples everywhere.

Even if the known world
And its population
Were a fraction of the size they are today,
That is still a tall order.

Especially for eleven ordinary men.

Only, of course, they were not ordinary.
Nobody is.

Nobody who takes up a cross
and follows you, Jesus,
Is ordinary.

Perhaps the stories have grown over the years –
But we associate James with Spain,
Thomas with India,
Peter with Rome,
Andrew with Scotland –

Relics, stories, influence –
Whatever –
The word was spreading.

The word came to us,
In our remote island,
Good News!

Amazing,
life-changing,
good news,

good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people,

for you, our Jesus,
born a baby,
who lived a human life
and died by human cruelty,
you are risen from death
and you live now,

And nothing will ever be the same.
