Failure and Setbacks

July 22, 2014 0 0

2Corinthians 11:30-31

If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.
The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised for ever, knows that I am not lying.

O Lord as I this day ponder recent failures and setbacks in my life,
help me to realise afresh that often through failure we learn greater dependence upon You.
At the heart of our frustrations at losing is often a self-sufficient attitude.
Our shortchanged prayer life is a warning signal, but we find that easy to ignore.
Failure is much harder to ignore.
As we strike off in first one direction and then another, sometimes failing along the way,
You are able to corner us into conclusions we weren't willing to look at before.
A growing sense of ineptitude in some areas of our lives begins to strike a note of caution.
Ironically, a sense of helplessness can grow
at the same time we know we are increasing our competence in other areas.
Such an inner tension is exactly what You O Lord use
to convince us that You alone can bring us to ultimate spiritual success.
Have Your way in my life today Lord. Amen.
