Psalm 24: 1-2 (NRSVA)

1 The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it,
    the world, and those who live in it;
2 for he has founded it on the seas,
    and established it on the rivers.

What a big picture! All space, all time, in the copious mind of God; every atom, every second, in the mysterious purpose of God; every one of us in the gracious hands of God.

At each step, we are parting the forest of the universe. At every tick of the clock, a wave is breaking on the shoreline of infinity. Take a second or two to breathe in the wonder of this day.

And then reflect how fundamental are the oceans to the creatures of earth, and how extraordinary the make-up of water, essential to our lives. Triangulate in prayer the frail human, the cosmos and the transcendent.

PRAYER:

God, may the leaders of our world learn how to spend even a short time in your temple, the command centre of the universe. We shall ourselves, for them, for the planet, and for you, our God. Amen.
