Eternal Father

Psalm 103: 13-17

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;  for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.  As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field;  the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.  But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children.

I’ll never forget that moment.
After all the struggle and the helplessness and the emotion and the mess,
He was carried to a table and the midwife did something to him,
Then the cry,
Like nothing I had ever heard,
Announcing this never before coming into the world.
And then he was in my arms, looking at me, as it seemed.
And then I gave him to his mother who would feed him, enfold him, live for him.

The anxious days.
Is he sleeping too much?
Should he be sick like that?
Why the crying?
Living less for myself,
Realising I am protector, provider,
The biggest change.

Never thought of myself as Father
But in these scary days it was good to look to the Father of all fathers,
To know your kindness to me, your aspiration for me, your purpose for me,
And to feel I can do this,
Imperfectly,
Maybe disastrously,
But your love is from everlasting to everlasting.
