Children

Matthew 19: 14

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Today across the country, (especially here in Scotland), as the school holidays have begun, parents will be under pressure to find things for their children to do. Those families who have a limited budget struggle to keep the children amused. This is also the time when children of all ages often make ill informed choices and find themselves in trouble with the law or involved in an accident because of a group think caper.

The Summer is the time when many churches close down their youth activities when in fact they should be expanding them because of the opportunities to engage with young people.

Lord,
Give extra strength to all carers this Summer,
Especially parents looking after children.
And youth workers and sports coaches
Give all in need the resources to cope

We pray for children in refugee camps
Children on the road in search of a home
Children lost and forgotten about due to war
Children who are being abused
Children who are ill in hospital
Children who are in any way mistreated

Lord,
Open the hearts and minds of your people
that we may see the need and respond
Help us today to be courageous
And speak out for the children
In our cities
In our streets
in our churches
In our homes
And above all in our hearts
