Blind Bartimaeus

Mark 10: 46-52

Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man Bartimaeus (that is Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus Son of David have mercy on me!”

Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David mercy on me!”

Jesus stopped and said “Call him,” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”  Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said “Rabbi, I want to see.”

“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus.

Father, I often can’t see your way for allowing my will to get in the way. I need like Bartimaeus to honestly tell you how I feel and allow you to have mercy on me.

Open the padlock of my will to ‘see’ your way forward.

Lord, I often feel almost blinded by my own ambitions. They seem to hide the light of your presence with their intensity.

Open the eyes of my heart to ‘see’ your presence as Bartimaeus did when you restored his sight.

I stumble about in the darkness of my misunderstandings and confusion. Help me to be like Bartimaeus, to take that step nearer to you so that your light of truth can shine into my mind.

Open the door of my mind so that your truth can flow in and I will ‘see’ your truth.

My emotions often control me taking me away from you. Not because you have left me but because I have turned away from your wonderful light.

Lord of all creation shine your light of love, release, freedom and healing into my very soul.

Open the eyes of my soul that I may ‘see’ I belong to you.   Amen.
